We loved the place from the moment you drove in with the great gardens and golf course to the entrance which our kids were convinced was a castle. The staff on reception couldn't do enough for you and we're very polite and explained everything very well. It's a bit of a maze to find your room but plenty of staff to help out. Neil the concierge was fantastic and great with the kids, even explained where it was best to go on the royal mile and what to look out for, making them on a habd map for us. We used the pool which could be a bit warmer and do with a Jacuzzi but more than adequate for what we needed. The Pentland Restaurant was lovely and again the staff couldn't help enough, even the guy in training was great. The breakfast was lovely and more than enough to choose from. Overall a great place to stay and only a 10-15 minute drive into Edinburgh or take a cab like us which was £25 from the door to the royal mile. Loved our stay and thank you to all that made it great.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. Got us taxis when needed and were kind enough to hold our luggage when we arrived early as well as after we checked out for several hours. The bus is about a 15 minute walk from hotel and takes about 45 minutes to get to city center. I must admit, it would be nice to have a golf cart shuttle for that walk, especially when returning and after walking around all day, as going back to hotel it’s uphill, but the walk isn’t difficult. We did not swim or golf or use the main restaurant. The bar near the front desk was nice though. Had a couple late snacks and drinks when we returned from city.

Breakfast during the week was fantastic, at the weekend it was really very busy, so had to wait in line but the line moved relatively quickly. The restaurant lead, Angie?, was very good, always attentive, kept moving always and clearly well experienced. A complimentary drink per person was a nice touch, but ended up using them for hot chocolate. The setting was beautiful, and we were able to use the leisure centre facilities, which were in very good condition and cleanliness also.

The hotel has an amazing location with lush greenery - with the golf estate that was a bonus. Although it is heritage hotel the rooms were spacious and very clean. We had a book breakfast with our room and it did have a lovely spread of hot and cold items. However, would have prefered if the hot dishes are changed on a daily basis - as it can get very repetitive for guests staying for over 2-3 days in a row.

Comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast and restaurants. Great facilities (e.g. made use of swimming pool and top class fitness/strength-training gym). Beautiful green/nature spaces offering quiet time (including golf facilities). Great location for exploring the region (20 mins to Edinburgh, Livingston or Forth Bridges; near Currie for train to Glasgow, and only 10mins to Edinburgh airport).
